About US

Fort William Photographic Society 13 years on…
Fort William Photographic Society (FWPS) was formed in 2012 and, in recent years, has found a home at the Salvation Army Hall in Fort William. We are a small, friendly club and aim to provide a programme of events that concentrates on learning, whilst never forgetting that clubs are also about friendship and fun.
Over the past few years, we have expanded our programme to include a variety of events. We’ve welcomed outside speakers, who have lectured on a diverse range of subjects such as street, underwater, abstract and northern lights photography. We can also have Zoom (online) lectures, enabling us to bring speakers from all over the world into the club.
Learning is an important part of what we aim to do, so club nights often focus on enabling people to try something new. Examples would be demonstrating how to make interesting audio-visual slideshows that tell a story, light painting, a half-day studio botanical workshop and how to make the most of a phone camera.
Members are encouraged to show their photography and seek critiques. We have a diverse range of interests, and we learn from each other.
Membership is open to anyone age 18 and over. Minors attending events need to be accompanied by an adult. Beginners are encouraged to join, and you do not need expensive equipment; a mobile phone will suffice. More experienced photographers will also find plenty to inspire and challenge them.
If this sounds interesting, have a look at our current programme and join us as a guest for up to 2 evenings. Entry for non-members is £3.50 (£5 for an external speaker), but this is refunded if you join. We have to charge a membership fee to enable us to offer an interesting programme.
Use the form on our Contact page if you have any questions. You will find an application form here too, but why not just pop along for an evening or two and see what we do!
Our formal programme runs twice a month from September until the end of May, with a short winter break. We then run an informal programme during the summer with monthly meetings that have an emphasis on getting out and about with a camera. Members are encouraged to organise and invite members to photo shoots at any time of the year.
Committee Members:
Andy Askey (chairman); Stuart Moralee (vice chairman); Nigel Heardman (secretary); Ewan MacCall (treasurer);
Armando Rodríguez Bárcenas Jr(webmaster); Claire Carter (programme coordinator)
